A Note on Sources
13 April 2008 - 1:24:03pm

The core of this data was researched and collected by Mark Dionne. Many of those entries have Notes. Many of the notes are "raw data," and I know some of them have old speculations that have been since proved wrong but the notes never updated. In some cases, where a cousin provided a "branch" of a tree, the source is marked just in a note for the entire branch.

Many of the older generations are copied from "standard sources," including some of the less reliable ones like the LDS, WorldConnect, World Family Tree etc. Likewise for a few celebrities. The Catherine DeBaillon royal ancestry is still being researched, and better information may be found on line. The ancestors of Charlemagne are for entertainment purpose only. Lines of US presidents come mostly from Ancestors of American Presidents, by Gary Boyd Roberts.
A Note on Copying Information from here
13 April 2008 - 1:23:39pm

I have spent a lot of time collecting the information here. I want other people to enjoy it. Some day I will be gone and I hope that the facts and stories here will not be lost. One way to keep it from getting lost is if people copy it.

But once people copy it, the copies probably will not get updated and corrected. I have already found old, inaccurate copies of my information on Rootsweb WorldConnect, Ancestry.com and elsewhere. Someone who searches these sources may have a hard time identifying the most accurate information.

For that reason, I ask those who copy from me to agree to a few conditions:
1) As much as possible, reference my material, by pointing to my site, www.markdionne.com.
2) Don't pass on the entire file (or significant portions) to other people without my permission as long as I am alive.
3) Try to tell me about any errors that you identify, or any new information that you add about close relations.
4) Honor the usual courtesies about not publishing information on living people.
5) Try to maintain the accuracy of your copy, as much as possible, by getting new information from me.
